SX1278 LoRa Module 433 MHz with Spring Antenna

The SX1278 LoRa module is a 433 MHz long-range, low-power radio built on the Semtech SX1278 chip. It sends small packets over long distances on very little power, which makes it a good fit for IoT sensor nodes, remote monitoring and farm or campus networks. It connects to Arduino, ESP32 or STM32 boards over SPI.

Practical notes

Solder the spring antenna before powering the module, and never transmit without an antenna. The module runs at 3.3 V and its pins are not 5 V tolerant, so use a 3.3 V board or level shifting. The pins are castellated (half-hole pads), so you need to solder wires or mount it on a PCB. The LoRa library by Sandeep Mistry in the Arduino IDE is a good starting point. Check the frequency and power rules that apply in India before deploying a permanent installation.

The module provides the LoRa radio. You can use it for simple point-to-point links, or with a LoRaWAN software stack and a gateway.

Do both ends need the same frequency?

Yes. Pair it with another 433 MHz SX1278 module, set to the same frequency, spreading factor and bandwidth.
