Raspberry Pi 5 is the fastest and most capable computer in the Raspberry Pi range, delivering a 2–3× uplift in CPU performance over Raspberry Pi 4 Model B while retaining the familiar form factor, 40-pin GPIO header and software compatibility. For the end-user, Raspberry Pi 5 provides a genuinely desktop-class experience for browsing, media playback, and development work.
Pi 5 is built around the Broadcom BCM2712, a quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 processor clocked at 2.4 GHz, with 512 KB L2 cache per core and a 2 MB shared L3 cache. Graphics are handled by the new VideoCore VII GPU running at 800 MHz with OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.2 support. Memory is 8 GB LPDDR4X-4267 SDRAM, offering roughly double the memory bandwidth of Pi 4.
A major architectural change is the in-house RP1 I/O controller, which handles all peripheral I/O and provides significantly higher aggregate USB and Ethernet throughput than the previous generation — both USB 3.0 ports can now run at full speed simultaneously.
Display & camera: dual 4Kp60 HDMI output via two micro-HDMI ports, with HDR support, plus HEVC (H.265) 4Kp60 hardware decode. Pi 5 introduces two 4-lane MIPI transceivers, each of which can be used as either a camera (CSI) or display (DSI) interface — so you can run two cameras, two displays, or one of each.
New on Pi 5: a single-lane PCIe 2.0 interface (FFC connector) for NVMe SSDs and other high-speed peripherals via an M.2 HAT, an onboard real-time clock (RTC) with battery connector, a power/on-off button, a 4-pin fan/PWM connector, and a UART debug header. Note that the 3.5 mm analogue audio jack and hardware H.264 encode block from Pi 4 have been removed.
Power is delivered over USB-C supporting 5V/5A (25W) with USB-PD negotiation; a 5V/3A supply will work but limits downstream USB current to 600 mA.
