Description :

A flex sensor, also known as a bend sensor or flexiforce sensor, is a type of resistive sensor that changes its resistance in response to the amount of bending or flexing applied to it. These sensors are commonly used to measure the degree of flexion or bending in various applications, such as robotics, medical devices, and human-machine interfaces.

Here are some key features and information about flex sensors:

Key Features :

Physical Structure: Flex sensors are typically thin, flexible devices that can be easily integrated into wearable or bendable surfaces.

Material Composition: They are often made of a flexible substrate, such as polyimide, with conductive material (usually carbon) applied in a serpentine pattern.

Resistance Variation: The resistance of a flex sensor changes as it bends. Typically, the resistance increases as the sensor is bent.

Unidirectional or Bidirectional: Some flex sensors are unidirectional, meaning they are designed to bend in a specific direction. Others are bidirectional and can measure bending in both directions.

Analog Output: Flex sensors are analog devices, and their resistance change is often measured as an analog voltage. This makes them compatible with analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) on microcontrollers.

Applications: Common applications include motion and gesture detection, robotics, virtual reality gloves, medical devices, and game controllers.

Wiring :

  • Connect the flex sensor to your Arduino as follows:
  • Connect one end of the flex sensor to the 5V pin on the Arduino.
  • Connect the other end of the flex sensor to one of the analog input pins (e.g., A0).
  • Connect a resistor (e.g., 10k ohms) from the analog input pin to the ground (GND) on the Arduino.
